The retreat! This is me, finally getting to it... well, the first night of it, anyway. I think I'll have to take this thing in shifts, as I don't have much time right now. But checked in late Thursday afternoon and the bonus classes started that night. Alisha hosted a very fun speed scrap. If you haven't ever done one, I suggest you try it. I did four layouts in one night!
{papers and flowers from DSM's "Moods" CD, "Sassy" kit; ack! can't remember where the staples are from; "Impact" and "Everytime I Miss You" fonts}
She would tell us something, like "pick a photo and crop it to a circle" and then set the timer for 2 minutes or so before moving on to the next instruction. I think each layout was timed for 20 minutes.
{everything from DSM's "Flower Patch" CD; "Civilian", "Jailbird Jenna", and "Pea Bonnie Script" fonts}
I have to be honest and say that none of these were completely finished in the alloted time - I touched them all up later that night in the hotel room - but the foundations were there and they were "almost" done.
{everything from DSM's "Playground" CD, "Riley's Sandbox" kit; "Problem Secretary Normal" and "Larger Mime" fonts}
The other bonus of the speed scrap is that I was able to scrap some memories I've been wanting to do for a while, but just didn't have the inspiration yet. So having here specific instructions, combined with the time constraints, was just what I need to get them DONE.
{everything from DSM's "Family Ties" CD; "Heritage" kit; "Century Gothic", "Jailbird Jenna", and "Jane Austen" fonts}
More to come...

Chance of Rain + Drop Shadow Tip
I have so much to post about... namely all the fun stuff from the DSM retreat a few weekends ago. But life has been busy, so for now all you get is my latest layout for Kelly Mickus, using her new "Chance of Rain" kit.
{everything from Chance of Rain by Kelley Mickus; "Love Ya Like a Sister" font}
One thing I really love about this layout is how good the drop shadows look. I've been playing with drop shadows almost since I started digital scrapbooking years ago, trying to find the best settings to get that realistic look. At the DSM retreat the fabulous black-belt scrapper Barb Hogan (one of our instructors) suggested setting the angle of drop shadows to 40. (The default is 120 degrees... you can change it by just typing 40 in the box instead. Let me know if that doesn't make sense.) Genius! I've done it on all my layouts since and just love the results. I learned so many cool little tips and tricks like that at the retreat... like I said, I need to post more about it. Later, though!

KD Designs
My digi scrapping friend, Kelly, has started designing digital scrapbooking supplies and selling her kits - meet KD Designs! Her kits are super cute... check 'em out, and the layouts I created using her designs:
Sweet Silhouette
I love the colors, the damask pattern papers, and especially the birds... I'm sucker for birds :)
Colors of Spring
These colors just make me happy :)
Summersault
If I had to pick, I'd say this one is my favorite. Such a great mix of patterns, and the soft colors lend themselves to so many different layouts! I wanted to use all these yummy papers, so I used paper strips to fit them all on this layout:
Eco Friends
My favorites in this kit are the soda can tabs (so unique!), felt shapes, and the notebook labels. And more birds!
I love these kits because they have so much variety and are so versatile! All of these kits can be found at Digiridoo Scraps. Check 'em out -- it's a very new, very fun site! And one more linky... don't miss her blog! Go Kelly!

I'm so excited!
I'm heading out the DSM Scrapbooking Retreat tomorrow! I'm giddy with excitement. I didn't get to go last year but I heard about how great it was and I've been waiting ever since. Two nights and two days of classes, non-stop scrapping, and girl time. :)
I'll be back next week, hopefully with good things to share!
