I Made Something!

I have been in a funk lately. I haven't scrapbooked a layout for so long... I've been completely unispired! BUT... I did manage to finally make some silhouettes of my family, a project I've been dying to attempt for months. Ever since we moved to this house and I saw it had a fireplace and a mantle, I knew that would look so pretty.

This was actually a really simple project. I took photos of each of my family members (myself included) against a white background. This made it pretty easy to extract the subject from the background. Here's a tutorial on doing extractions in photoshop. Next, I just dragged the extracted subject onto a blank canvas of 8.5x11. I used the paint bucket tool to fill the photo in with black. Then print! Easy. My frames are 8x10, so I had to crop them just a little bit to fit. I love how they turned out.

I'm toying with the idea of making these if anyone is interested... silhouettes for hire! You send my your photos, I send you silhouettes. Let me know what you think!

2009 Album

I loved my "Year in Our Ordinary Life" album I did for 2008 so much, I planned to make one for this year as well. I have had good intentions, but haven't done anything - until now. I started last night and have now completed two page layouts for January and February. I know, I know... probably not the best idea to start another album while I'm still in the middle of another one... but I was feeling inspired so I ran with it.

Any Given Day

Kelly Mickus has a new kit out, it's a collaboration with Creashens (another designer) called "Any Given Day". I love it, it's so soft and pretty... I love kits like this but often have a hard time scrapbooking with them since my subjects are usually my two little boys. So instead I chose a picture of my husband and I. I love how it turned out!
